Listen to Succinct Shots: The Change Point

Realizing the moment when you push beyond normality

This is part of a series called Succinct Shots. It’s based on a practice of stream-of-consciousness writing. But it’s my own variation to use a focal point, instead of rambling aimlessly without intent. It’s meant to trigger clarity for the writer and reader.

The change point comes when you are fully ready or fully fed up.

It usually takes a variety of messages from different messengers to get to that point. But those messages have to hit a chord that rings true. They cannot be the banal, everyday variety of motivational monoliths. Without a connection to the truth, without a feeling in your soul, the days pass without any change.

The moment arrives when you fully realize that time is passing you by. The moment sinks in when you know that your creative soul is dormant and aching to be reactivated. The moment is embarrassing when you think about all the things left on the table.

Two of my messengers are David Goggins and Austin Kleon. Goggins is a no excuse, no bullshit Marine that is a practitioner of his beliefs. He espouses the message to find your 100% over settling for the normal 40% of life. Kleon is an artist. He connects with creativity and pursues it in earnest each day.

The art of life is putting your creative wares out for anyone to peruse. It is an offering that feeds the soul each day. It is essential to fulfil your creative duty and reach your unlimited potential.

Both of these messengers provide insights that dig deep within your psyche and attach to your inner consciousness with clarity. They are not motivators, they are practitioners. Motivation is cotton candy; practice is the whole circus.

The change point must come from a deep desire to be who you really are. It does not mean you want to make millions or build a big business. It just means that you are ready to be a constant creative soul that produces your best work that the world can see.

It is not searching for financial largess or publicity, it means being productive with your talents. It means full expression. It means living in your art instead of in your head. The internal struggle becomes the external gifts to the world. It simply recognizes that you are willing to share yourself with the world and add to its bounty.

The change point reflects the end of angst, the tiredness of mediocrity. It is a right of passage to be yourself fully and be ready to engage with all its consequences.
