My public debut. Thanks to a push from an old friend who transformed into a music promoter for one night.
I can write, play and sing songs all day in my “studio” room. That feels like being a songwriter. But if I go outside my safe room with a guitar case in hand, I start to feel like an imposter.
And, as a performer, I am. I have not put in the time to deserve that label.
That’s why I admire singer-songwriters. Those are two different crafts merging to make the magic appear and send it into the universe.
But sometimes your world aligns to make things happen.
Andrea Stolpe is a songwriter and educator out of the Berklee College of Music traditions. I follow her social media to gain musical insights.
Last week, she traded her usual cheeriness for a heavy dose of reality:
She nailed it.
So I went out to sing it.
