We are watching a genocide in real time.
And we are at the numbness stage. The slaughtered families, the bombed out buildings and the total devastation of neighborhoods with schools, hospitals and mosques.
All of these images are just normalized in our mind. It’s a sickening transition.
We are all complicit in this global crime as witnesses. We see the horror and go back to our regular programming.
It’s just another day in the Middle East. Another day in support of a decades-old American ally.
But the reality is harsh and cruel.
The machinations of religious zealots turn the innocents into terrorists.
It makes for biased narratives, duplicitous politicians and a never-ending bonanza for the military and security state.
That’s the way the world works.
Song Background:
Despite its gender bias, killing is supposed to involve men on the battlefield, not women and children.
The casualties of war (conflicts) should be restricted to combatants, not those protecting and feeding families in war zones. But Gaza has no safe spaces.
The goal is obliteration of a viable habitat in order to remove the occupants to the desert or another country.
No matter what your religious beliefs are, these are sins.
Shout Out:
The inspiration for the song came from an unlikely source, a comedian.
On May 14, Theo Von tried to put his thoughts about the situation in Gaza into words. It was a very heartfelt and sincere message given in his unique style.

Lyrics:
People putting kids back together Body parts in a plastic bag Woman and children starve together A genocide under our flag Chorus: What are we doing? What have we become? Why can't I say something? Say something It's been making me really sick I feel like I needed to say something You don't have to think like that I'm not asking you to do anything (Chorus) Our country is complicit in it Government makes other choices What we want doesn't matter We're here without any voices (Chorus) I just wanted to say something For the grief that we cause I just had to speak up Just to give myself pause
