Politics dominate American life and the media is fixated on the narratives, both left and right. The middle ground narrows as the middle class disappears.
Nowadays, getting behind a political party is a tribal signal, not an allegiance based on values for the entire nation.
Voting is still a sacred right, but the choices almost don't matter anymore. The hype and hysteria play out to keep the status quo in power and relegate common citizens to suffer the consequences of corporate malfeasance.
Song Background:
Barack Obama was hope but not change. He sucker punched us. He stockpiled decades of goodwill in racial pride, racial progress and belief in Constitution ideals to be elected the first African-American president of the U.S.
That was a big deal for most Americans raised on civil rights issues from the 1960s. It made our spirits soar.
But actions are louder than campaign slogans. President Obama succumbed to the real purveyors of our democratic system: Wall Street, warmongers and big business. We need to remember his legacy in total, especially as cleanup operations are now in full force.
Shout Out:
The people of Flint, Michigan deserve better from their government leaders, at all levels. They've suffered enough from drinking water toxicity, corrupt politicians and the indignity of watching a president "sip water" as a stunt to placate their valid complaints.
Simple acts are powerful; they remain embedded in your soul. Please watch this clip from Fahrenheit 11/9 from 2018. It is disturbing.

Lyrics:
Ohhh, Obama Si nzuri sana Hope and change We came so far Just to be let down By who you really are You came to Flint to drink the water Only to spit in their face With broken hearts they looked at you In silent disgrace Ohhh, Obama Si nzuri sana Hope and change We came so far Just to be let down By who you really are Hellfire falls in foreign skies As the drones slip away Leaving lives dead on the ground For the empire of the USA Ohhh, Obama Si nzuri sana Hope and change We came so far Just to be let down They roll you out to sway the vote Just to keep the status quo You sold our trust to the party line And left Wall St. in control Ohhh, Obama Si nzuri sana Vote and no change It's an incremental flow To save the elites From the undertow A Tom or a tool For the well-off way A legacy on the line Before the judgement day Ohhh, Obama Si nzuri sana Hope and change We came so far Just to be let down
